Welcome to Goodricke College!
We’re one of York’s oldest colleges, named after the deaf astronomer John Goodricke. At just 21 years of age, Goodricke discovered two ‘variable’ stars in one evening, along with Edward Piggott (only four had been discovered prior).
In 2009 Goodricke College moved to Campus East and grew in the process. We’re now home to around 600 resident students and 1,800 college members.
Goodricke's discovery helped astronomers to measure the size of the universe and his principles still help them find planets today. We hope Goodricke students will also have a positive impact on the world, while aiming for the stars.
Being on the Goodricke Committee has been such an incredible experience. It has allowed me to feel more connected to the college and university on a whole, which makes planning events for students all the more rewarding! The Goodricke community is so welcoming and diverse, it's amazing to represent it!
